So something really special happened in the musical today. Key’s character loses his grandmother figure in the show and there’s a really beautiful tribute to her, as well as a few songs dedicated to remembering her. Key gave the most beautiful, emotional performance. I think the entire theater was close to tears. It was such a devastating scene and Key cried a lot, but when the time came he was able to pick up the show where he left off. He displayed such an amazing range of skill going from soft, lyrical rap to intense, loud, fast-paced lyrics through to his beautiful rich singing voice.

I go to a lot of Key’s musicals because I love watching him perform and I love musicals, but even so many shows later he still managed to surprise me and show a new, more dynamic, stronger performance than I’ve ever seen from him. Seeing him perform such a challenging role; going from cute and light hearted to emotionally charged to inspiring and powerful, was really really moving.

As always, Key’s incredible ability to improve himself left me feeling breathless and like I wanted to strive for more in my own life. He really is such an amazing talent and a beautiful performer and I hope he gets all the credit he deserves for all his hard work, dedication and bravery.

Standing on stage and giving a performance that, I can only assume, hits so close to his heart only makes me love and admire him more. I hope anyone who has the opportunity goes to “In the Heights” and sees for themselves what a phenomenal job the cast and Kibum have done on bringing the story to life.

As always, overwhelmingly proud of Key and all he’s achieved.

Key has this part in the musical where he basically frolicks/skips up a few steps when entering one of the houses and he goes “hihihihi” almost maniacally while doing it, and I swear it was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen OTL
